Weekend getaway

Vegan leather shorts: Blank NYC

Serious rewind. Been meaning to post photos from the beginning of September (I know, I know, it's already the end of October). I had spent a long weekend up in Vermont with my boyfriend and Fall was just beginning to show it's colors. It was still warm enough to swim in the river and go blueberry picking. Now it's nearly November and I want to start hibernating. It's almost time to break out the winter coats...

Midi me

Skirt - Eshakti | Top - Brandy Melville | Wedges - Zara
 Photos by Penn Rosen

Tryna be more of a grown lady lately while staying away from pants as much as possible. Been really diggin' midi skirts lately and this one from Eshakti was exactly what I was looking for. A full black midi skirt that can be added to my staples. It goes with just about ever crop top I own, which is a lot. What's great about this skirt is that Eshakti can actually customize all their pieces to fit to your exact sizes. Plus this skirt has pockets, everyone loves pockets.

The Horse

I never used to be a watch person but a couple years ago my friend Lua gave me a beautiful Daniel Wellington watch for my birthday and I haven't been able to live without one since. I recently treated myself to this BEAUTIFUL The Horse watch with a vegetable tan leather strap and silver hardware. It's such a timeless (hehe) accessory that I know I will have for years to come. I think I might start collecting watches...

Silhouettes

Penn and I spent our Sunday at the Brooklyn Museum to see the 'Ai Weiwei : According to What?' exhibition. While exploring the rest of the museum, we saw this beautiful window in the hall that had the best light. We just stopped for a little photo op, the contrast was too good to pass up.

Wedding Weekend

Dress - ASOS | Shoes - Zara

According to my Instagram feed, it seems if my friends weren't seeing Beyonce and Jay-Z this weekend than they were at a wedding. I was on the wedding bandwagon. Penn and I attended a beautiful wedding in upstate New York for a friend of his. It was actually the first wedding I've ever been to and I had an absolute blast. The wedding and reception took place on the bride's grandmother's property. The ceremony was in the lovely garden, the reception was in the barn, there were lawn games, great food and drinks, and it was all so beautiful.  The weather was gorgeous too which allowed us to camp out on the property after the reception. We had so much fun we forgot to take photos so this is the only one I have! I think that's how you know you're having a great time, when you're not worried about "showing" you're having a great time. Hopefully there will be some fun shots of us floating on the interwebs from other guests at the wedding...

Ctrl + Shift

Shift Dress - Brandy Melville | Scarf and Sunnies - H&M | Leather Jacket - David Bitton | Booties - Ascot & Hart x Matisse | Necklace - Jewelmint

I basically live in shift dresses during the summer. They're the easiest and most comfortable thing for me to throw on and they suit my body type well. This one from Brandy Melville is so simple and comfortable, I have it in two colors. I get a lot of my basics from there because their clothing is just SO SOFT. I'm a sucker for anything that makes me feel like my body is wrapped in a baby blanket.

So here are a bunch of blurry pictures of me wearing one of my favorite shift dresses....

View from the top

I've come to realize my favorite place to experience New York City is from just about any rooftop. Not only is there usually a lack of human congestion, there's always a pretty killer view. In my opinion it's the best place to escape from reality, especially if you're constantly on the move as most New Yorkers are. I'll admit I'm guilty of forgetting to appreciate living in this beautiful city sometimes, so when I get a chance to take in the whole city skyline at once, it truly reminds me how great I have it and how happy I am here.

New York, I guess you're pretty cool.

Last weekend, Penn and I made a trip down to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. It was absolutely beautiful and the weather was perfect. The only downside of our adventure was that we decided to go on Mother's Day since neither of us could spend the day with our Mothers, which meant the garden was packed with families. We had only gone one other time prior and the first time felt much more intimate and relaxing. Don't get me wrong, it was still a beautiful experience, but not as enjoyable to lay under the cherry blossoms with a million screaming children around you if you know what I mean...

Queens Adventure

This past weekend, Penn and I went exploring through Queens. We strolled through the Flushing Meadows Cornoa Park before the rain came pouring down on us. I had forgotten my camera that day so we took some quick snaps with our phones. What a missed opportunity though! There were so many beautiful gems about our adventure.

We waddled around the Unisphere and New York State Pavilion, previous home of the World's Fair. The colors and architecture was just stunning. It must have been wonderful to attend the World's Fair in the 60's. The history of it is so fascinating.

Stopped by the Flushing Mall for shaved ice for dessert. I used to go to this mall with my parents as a kid, but so much has changed about it. It's seriously one funky place and always has been, but walking through the now empty halls with so many closed store fronts was a totally different experience from the ones I remember from my childhood. One thing's for sure, the d├ęcor has not changed...

We also made our way through the Queens Museum. There were some pretty awesome exhibitions including the one above - Entre Fronteras. One thing I'll never get tired of is going to museums. They're a constant source of inspiration and motivation to continue creating. I'm grateful to have such a wonderful human to explore them with.
